Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma apologised for uploading a post with casteist remarks on his social media platforms saying that his team made an "incorrect translation" of a verse from the Bhagavad Gita.
Sarma in a post on X and Facebook on Thursday night said that he uploads one verse of Bhagavad Gita every morning on his social media handles, which have posted 668 Slokas till date.

"Recently one of my team members posted a sloka from Chapter 18 verse 44 with an incorrect translation. As soon as I noticed the mistake, I promptly deleted the post... If the deleted post has offended anyone, I sincerely apologise," he said.

The Chief Minister stressed that Assam reflects a "perfect picture" of a casteless society due to the reform movement led by Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva.  On December 26, Sarma had uploaded an audio-visual post on his social media handles like X and Facebook that he claimed to be from Sloka 44 of Sanyas Yoga from the 18th chapter of Gita.  The animated video stated that "farming, cow-rearing and commerce are habitual and natural duties of the Vaishya, while serving the three 'varnas' -- Brahman, Kshatriya and Vaishya -- is the natural duty of the Shudras". Sharing this video, Sarma even said: "God Sri Krishna himself described the types of natural duties of Vaishya and Shudras."  This sparked a massive political row with opposition leaders denouncing what they called the "BJP's Manuvadi and regressive ideology".  Facing a volley of criticism, Sarma later deleted the post from all his social media platforms.

Guwahati: Assams Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma has advised Rahul Gandhi, a leader of the Congress party to reconsider his plan to visit Batadrava on January 22nd. This date coincides with the consecration ceremony of the Ram temple, in Ayodhya. Sarma emphasized that there should be no rivalry between Srimanta Sankardeva, a revered Vaishnav saint from times and Lord Ram, as both hold importance in Assam.  During a press conference Sarma announced the deployment of commandos along routes that pass through areas with minority populations. These are the routes that Rahul Gandhis Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra is scheduled to traverse on the day of the consecration ceremony. The chief minister expressed concerns about misrepresentation of Assam. Urged Gandhi to avoid creating unnecessary competition that could adversely impact the states image.  "We kindly request Rahul Gandhi not to visit Batadrava on Monday during the consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple as it may portray Assam in a light " stated Sarma. He suggested that Gandhi could consider visiting Batadrava after the ceremony to prevent any competition that might harm Assams religious harmony.  Srimanta Sankardeva, a saint scholar from 15th 16th century Assam holds a place, in the states cultural and religious history. Sarma expressed his concerns, about the Congresss selected path for Rahul Gandhis Yatra, which includes " areas" such as Morigaon, Jagiroad and Nellie. To address these concerns regarding law and order issues he instructed District Commissioners and Superintendents of Police to intensify patrolling efforts and maintain a watch, in these specific areas.

Biswanath, Assam: Despite objections, from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who urged Rahul Gandhi to avoid visiting Batadrawa Than, the birthplace of Vaishnavite saint Srimanta Sankardeva during the consecration ceremony of the Ram temple in Ayodhya the Congress confirmed on Sunday that Gandhis scheduled visit would proceed as planned. Jairam Ramesh, the General Secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC) stressed that Gandhis visit to the Than in Assams Nagaon district would occur as originally intended and urged against politicizing it. Gandhi is currently leading a 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' from Manipur to Mumbai passing through Assam from January 18th to 25th. The Yatra is set to reach Nagaon on Sunday. Will pause there for the night before continuing its journey the morning. "The route for this Yatra was finalized 3 4 weeks ago and according to our schedule we will be in Nagaon on January 22nd " Ramesh stated during a press conference while en route, to Assam. "We believe it is essential for us to visit Batadrawa Than since we are passing through Nagaon. It holds significance as it is the birthplace of the renowned social reformer Srimanta Sankardeva, whose life continues to inspire millions today " he added.

Sarma also announced that commandos would be deployed along routes in areas with minority populations that the Yatra will pass through on Monday. Nagaon: Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of exerting pressure, on the Assam government to obstruct Rahul Gandhis visit to the birthplace of Vaishnav saint Srimant Sankardeva. Gandhi along with Congress leaders and supporters was stopped at Haiborgaon and subsequently staged a peaceful protest. The managing committee of Sri Sankardeva Sattra had previously announced their decision not to allow Rahul Gandhi to visit the sattra before 3 pm on January 22. This decision came after Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during a press conference requested Gandhi to postpone his visit until after the consecration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

He further revealed that despite being granted permission for a visit on January 11 sudden restrictions were imposed on January 20 allowing the visit after the consecration of the Ram Temple. Highlighting what he believes is an effort to prevent Gandhis visit Ramesh asserted, "Even when authorities mentioned law and order concerns, to Rahulji he offered to go alone. However this offer was also declined."Amid concerns, about maintaining law and order authorities have assured that only Rahul Gandhi will proceed to the Bardrava premises. Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi and local Congress MLA Sibamoni Bora have been granted permission to meet with the managing committee in order to address the issue and facilitate Gandhis visit. Ramesh confirmed that Gandhi will continue his dharna until Gogoi and Bora return from the sattra. The managing committee proposed a visit after 3 pm. Ramesh questioned whether CM Himanta Biswa Sarma would suddenly disallow the visit due to concerns, over law and order. "After resolving this matter the yatra will continue along its route " added Ramesh.

Nagaon (Assam): In the Nagaon district of Assam, Rahul Gandhi, a leader, from the Congress party raised concerns about not being allowed to visit the birthplace of Vaishnav saint Srimanta Sankardeva during a period of law and order crisis. Speaking to the media Gandhi highlighted the situation where he was subjected to restrictions while others were granted access to the revered saints birthplace.  Gandhi, accompanied by Congress leaders and supporters encountered a halt at Haibargaon on their way to the sattra (Sankardevas birthplace). Undeterred by this setback they organized a sit in protest known as dharna while party MP Gaurav Gogoi and Batadrava MLA Sibamoni Bora continued their journey with the aim of resolving the access issue at the birthplace.

 After their return Gandhi expressed his admiration for Sankardevas philosophy. Emphasized its values of unity and harmony. "He is like a guiding light for us. Provides us with direction. Therefore when I came to Assam I had intended to pay my respects " stated Gandhi.  The Congress leader expressed surprise at being denied access despite reported law and order challenges in that area. "It is perplexing that while there is a law and order situation, in this region Gaurav Gogoi and others are allowed entry but only Rahul Gandhi is barred " he remarked. Despite facing a setback Gandhi expressed his determination to visit Batadrava whenever he gets the chance. He emphasized the importance of both Assam and the entire nation following the path shown by Sankardeva. Gandhi mentioned that they had initially received an invitation to visit Sankardevas birthplace on January 11th but were recently informed about the law and order situation.  "I'm not sure, about the reasons, behind it but I will definitely go to Batadrava when I have an opportunity " he asserted, reaffirming his dedication to the teachings and ideals of Srimanta Sankardeva.
