Two Gujarati ladies arrested for imposing "Talibani" punishment to woman for 2nd marriage

Amreli, Gujarat (The Hawk): Two ladies have been detained by the Amreli police in Gujarat in connection with a woman's 'Talibani' punishment for her second marriage.

According to the victim Bhanuben Sadhamia, she married Raju Charoliya about 15 years ago; he passed away in an accident four years ago. She wed Kavabhai Sadhamia a year and a half ago, defying Raju's family's desires.

She was on Monday visiting her first in-laws in Galkotdi village, Amreli district, for an unspecified personal reason when her sister-in-law (first husband's sister), Ghughaben Hikabhai, began verbally harassing her. Later, they (the members of Raju's family) began beating her till she collapsed to the ground. She was threatened with death by her other sister-in-law Chakuben Charoliya, who also cut her hair.

Later, she was saved by her mother-in-law (Raju's mother), Gavuben Ravatbhai, and the neighbour dialled an ambulance. She was brought to a hospital, where she later filed a complaint and provided a statement to the police.

Ghughaben, Chakuben, and two other people—Faduben and Hikabhai—have all been accused by the police of criminal intimidation, intentionally inflicting harm, and knowingly making derogatory remarks in order to provoke.

According to the police, a search is still on for Chakuben and Hikabha while two accused, Ghughaben and Faduben, were taken into custody on Wednesday morning.
