Los Angeles: The media dynasty drama, "Succession," and the dramedies "The Bear" and "Beef" secured the most prestigious television honors during the Golden Globes ceremony on Sunday.
"Succession," which shattered records with the highest number of Golden Globe TV nominations for its fourth and final season, triumphed with the Best Drama award. The series also clinched three victories for its cast members.
Matthew Macfadyen, a first-time Globe winner portraying Tom Wambsgans, the spouse of Roy family member Shiv Roy, and Kieran Culkin, who plays the youngest Roy sibling, both claimed awards for Best Male Supporting Actor and Best Male Actor in a Drama Series, respectively. Sarah Snook, embodying Shiv Roy, seized the award for Best Female Actor in a Television Drama.
Jesse Armstrong, the creator of "Succession," expressed mixed feelings about the show's final awards season, calling the win "bittersweet."
The series delves into the power struggles among the affluent and conniving Roy family. Prior to this, the gripping drama had secured five Golden Globes, including its initial Best Drama accolade in 2020.
Leading the television categories, FX's "The Bear" triumphed with the Best Television Comedy award, garnering three Golden Globes for its second season.
Lionel Boyce, portraying a restaurant worker named Marcus, conveyed gratitude in his acceptance speech, stating, "Thank you to the entire restaurant community. You know, we play the characters for a couple of hours or a couple of months out of the year, but this is y'all reality, the highs and lows, so thank you for embracing us to tell this story."
Jeremy Allen White, essaying the role of head chef Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto, clinched the Best Male Actor Globe for a Musical or Comedy Show, marking his second Golden Globe win.
"I must have done something right in this life to be in your company," White expressed, acknowledging his fellow cast members during his acceptance speech.
Ayo Edebiri, the breakout star portraying chef Sydney Adamu in "The Bear," secured her maiden Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy Show.
"I'm very lucky to be an artist," Edebiri shared during her acceptance speech, expressing gratitude for her role's evolution from the first to the second season.
"The Bear" revolves around a formally trained chef, played by White, who returns to his Chicago hometown to manage his family’s sandwich shop after his brother's passing.
Among other notable wins was the fiery Netflix comedy-drama "Beef," which claimed the title of Best Television Limited Series. Lead actors Ali Wong and Steven Yeun earned Best Female and Male Actor honors, marking their inaugural Globe wins and highlighting an Asian-led series.
The Golden Globe assets were acquired by Eldridge Industries last June, resulting in the dissolution of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and Dick Clark Productions (DCP) due to criticisms of lack of diversity and ethical concerns. However, under new ownership, this year's membership expanded to 300 journalists from 75 countries, reflecting a 60 percent increase in racial and ethnic diversity.
