Youth arrested for online harassment of Naina Jaiswal

Hyderabad: A youth has been arrested by the Cyber Crime Police in Hyderabad in connection with the online harrasment of noted table tennis player Naina Jaiswal.

The Cyber Crime Police has identified the youth as Srikanth, a resident of Siddipet. The arrest was made based on Naina's father's complaint with the Central Crime Station (CCS).

As per police, the accused youth was earlier summoned by the Siddipet police for making objectionable comments about Naina on social media platforms. Police had also given him counseling then. Despite this, he continued harassing the table tennis player online, and based on a complaint by the player's father, he was arrested.

Naina’s father, Ashwini Jaiswal had complained that his 22-year-old daughter was being harassed and stalked by a person on Instagram, reported IANS.

A case was registered against Srikanth and he was booked under Section 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), and 354D (Stalking) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The accused had allegedly been posting objectionable comments on Naina's posts on Facebook. Later, after his profile was blocked, he began posting indecent comments under Naina's Instagram posts, reported IANS.

As the user continued to harass Naina by opening new accounts even after getting blocked, Ashwini approached the police seeking action against the stalker.

Earlier in February 2020, Naina had also lodged a police complaint stating that her Facebook page had been hacked. She had told the police that somebody hacked her account, changed the password, and had been posting videos and other content on her Facebook profile, reported IANS.

Naina, an ace table tennis player has won multiple titles in both national and international championships. She was also selected for the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) World Hopes Team. She also holds the title of being the youngest post-graduate in Asia, as she had completed her post-graduation from Osmania University at the age of 15.
